2014 Annual show

  • Page last updated: 20 January 2018

The club's 2014 show was held on Saturday 08 November 2014 at the Rainbow Community Hall in Northfleet following a last minute change due to a double booking of the regular hall. Photographs taken at the show are set out below

For many members, this was one of the most enjoyable shows they could remember. Not for the number of birds benched, the extraordinary quality nor the variety. It was the circumstances that pulled everyone together on the day.

The Show Secretary had turned up on Saturday 08 November to find the show hall contained a 4-day commemorative WW1 exhibition. Double booked. Though initial thoughts turned to cancellation, the committee arrived, spoke with the vicar, and set off to look at alternatives. After a false hope at another hall down the road – already booked – we found ourselves at the Rainbow Centre Community Hall in Northfleet. Completely unknown to most members.

It was a question of making do with tables instead of our usual staging. The dance class upstairs added an additional light percussion and members rose to the challenge. Freda, Pauline and Rose put together a terrific lunch and everyone mucked in to make the day enjoyable. We even made a profit. Especial thanks to Richard Hammond, Show Secretary; Kerry Heaver, Show Manager; Freda Cuthbert and the vicar who, once he realised the situation, pulled out all the stops to find a new venue.

124 birds were benched. Down on previous years but the event made up for it in enthusiasm and fun. See below for the full list of winners.
